Now this is a question that is asked by all of us. It depends on the particular subject you are talking about for example. The question is where are we going as to what are we trying to achieve? Businesses, churches, and organizations ask this question and it becomes a part of their long-term planning.
If we are talking about a trip for example, Elaine and I often talk about this subject, it revolves around the where, when, and how long. The way question has been answered as we have a motorhome so we know the answer to the way we will travel. Where do we want to go and what do we want to do while we're gone? How long do we want to be gone? That is often decided by other things we want to do. How far do we travel on given days? Do we stop simply for a rest for a day or two? We have gotten pretty good at this one. Working on a trip this fall to the mountains for the leaves changing. We have not been able to do that for a while. Then next spring a trip to Niagara Falls. This will be a fun one to put together.
I am sure you have the idea about this, where do we go from here question but let's take this in another direction. This is not simply your question or your answer but a much larger question for all to answer. There will be those who will put great effort into answering. Others maybe will get worn out and give up. There will still be others who will not even attempt to answer the question. Sadly others who never knew what the question was and missed it totally.
The where do we go from here question as a nation is at the forefront today. If you read this blog on the day it is posted on Friday, August 9, 2024, there are then 88 days until Election Day November 5th. Based on what is reported a high percentage of voters have already made up their minds. I know I have and I have watched and listened to the other side from where I am voting. I can find nothing that I believe will cause me to change my vote. You may be the same and that is fine.
So with that in mind, it is reported that there are a few hundred thousand who are undecided. They may or may not have a party affiliation, which does not matter. They can be Democrat, Republican, Libertarian, Independent, or simply none of the above but should and hopefully will vote. Everyone needs to vote in every election. There is no election where our vote does not count. It is imperative that we vote.
Let me put this in here right now. Are you registered to vote? If you are, that is good. If you are not then let me implore you to contact your local Supervisor of Elections and register today. Study the ballot and be prepared to vote in any and all elections.
Now, back to where I was a moment ago. So vote. But do so intelligently and with understanding. Consider the candidate or the matter requiring you to vote. You should do so before you walk into the voting both. Know how you will vote because you studied and understand what you believe is the right decision.
If you are reading this blog and are a believer in Jesus Christ, then you should carefully consider your faith and the Bible in the decisions you will make. As a believer and a citizen, we have a responsibility to do the right thing.
If you read this and are not a believer in Jesus Christ let me say to you using the words of Jesus Himself-
For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
You probably have heard them before and know they are from John 3:16. Listen to what else He had to say in verses 17-21-
17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.
18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed.
21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”
So there you have it in the words of Jesus Christ Himself. Why don’t you stop right here and pray. Admit you are a sinner, believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that He is the Son of God. Asking Him to come into your life right now. He will and you can know for certain that you have eternal life.
Remember we started with the where do we go from here question. Well, as individuals the question is will I go to Heaven or will I go to hell. The previous paragraphs and verses make it clear that the only way to go to Heaven is through Jesus Christ.
Now for the other where do we go from here question. This revolves around how we, as citizens answer the question at the ballot box in 88 days. This is not about personalities, political parties or a specific point. It is about voting as a believer who knows right from wrong. Who knows that there is only one way forward. That sometimes we have to go back to go forward. Things have to be corrected. Mistakes fixed and admission of the failures which have occurred.
Let’s be honest that we all individually will rarely get it right. The same is true for a nation, state, community, home, church, any organization. When the opportunity is given to correct a problem then we should take the opportunity to fix it.
You know what to do. Pray and be in the Word. Study the ballots in which you will vote be they a primary or the national election on November 5th. Don’t take this lightly. Use your right and privilege-vote.
In God’s Grace,
Elbert Nasworthy
