Recently Franklin Graham encouraged Christians to pray for the President of the United States. He asked that we as believers follow the Scripture that instructs us to pray for those in authority so that we as individuals might live a peaceable life.
The President was in the vicinity of a church on that same day just prior to leaving for a trip to Europe in remembrance of the 75th Anniversary of D-Day. This also happened to be on the same weekend that there had been a mass shooting in Virginia. The visit to McLean Bible was the same day that all of these events came together.
It became a "perfect storm" of emotion and expression. Over the next few days things were written and posted on Twitter. Statements made that were, well let us say, not to Christian.
Interestingly enough to me is that today there is little being said. I guess we can say that it has run its course in the news cycle.
Personally I considered leaving the electronic world after these past few days. However, as I was working on different things today from reading God's Word, working on messages, even writing this blog I was reminded of a very simple truth. This is an ever-changing world. Now be kind here because we all have heard and used this phrase before. Don't miss the beauty of what it says. This world and social media is of this world and are ever-changing. Topics, subjects and thoughts will appear and then fade into obscurity over a news cycle. Then remember that we are, as Christians, to be speaking of the never-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.
Trust you have a great weekend. Don't miss the opportunity to worship with others this Sunday. Sing praises to God, pray for those in need, for your pastor and for your church. Bring your tithes and give hilariously for the work of the Lord. Listen the wonder of His Word as it is preached. You need to be in church this Sunday, so just do it. Until next time.
In God's Grace,
