Uncertainty is a major issue for most people. You may be the one who can handle it as they say “like water off a ducks back”, but most people handle it in varying ways. Some acknowledge the issue and move forward. Others will spend time in contemplation and thought. Still many others will see it as the “sky is falling” and “the glass as half empty“.
All of these and probably some others are the natural response to major issues. Now the issues vary and can be anything from health, family, career, finances, even elections and the results thereof. Now when any combinations of these come together it will exasperate the feelings you may be having. This is true regardless of who you are whether a Christian or not. It is not a spiritual thing, it is a human nature thing. However, how you handle it becomes a spiritual thing.
Now as a point of information, the Christian is to be better equipped to handle this than the non-Christian. As a Christian, we go back to the Word and it tells us in 1 John 4:4 that ”...you belong to God, my dear children. You have already won a victory over those people, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” NLT. It is from this that we can understand that there is a power out there and it is active. Yet within us, is a greater power and that is the Holy Spirit of God. So we have all of the opportunity to have God in the midst of what is going on and all we have to do is rely in Him.
Recently I was asked about what is going on today and how to understand it. The question was so important for that person and I felt such a responsibility to give them the right answer. As I prayerfully considered how to respond, God directed me to His Word. After I had answered them, I was reminded that His Word and His Holy Spirit are always there for us to read and respond to in every issue of life.
There will be things that occur in life that I don’t like and don’t want to deal with but God allows them in my life any way. It is up to me on how I will respond and up to God to make a way when there seems to be no way. That is how the Christian life works. He is God, I’m not, so my job is to trust Him.
He expressed that to us in Proverbs 3:5-6 when He said through the writer-
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding.
6Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.
If we are not careful we can put ourselves into a debilitating circumstance and unable to move forward. Fear over takes us and we seize up and become overwhelmed by things that God has under control. We may not see it but remember the words of Charles Haddon Spurgeon (one of my favorite quotes and something I live by) “God is too good to be unkind and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.”
I have no idea what today and especially tomorrow holds but I know who is in control of today and I know holds tomorrow. If you don’t, then comment on this post and give me your number and let’s talk.
A thought to ponder,
