Warren W. Wiersbe said in “Be Worshipful” 1st edition of the Be” Commentary Series that-.
The courage and strength we need in the trials of life are available from the Lord if we will put our faith in Him.
As I was recently reading in the Psalms, I was in chapter 31. This is an important Psalm by David and one written when he was in a time of life which found him facing life and death situations. It is difficult to perfectly place the events he faced at the time of Psalms origin. Several ideas are noted by most scholars. Possibly the reference to “a besieged city” in verse 21 found in several translations could be the volatile situation with David’s experience at Keilah seen in 1 Samual 23:1–15 or perhaps at Ziklag in 1 Samual 30.
There is the description of what happened during the rebellion led by Absalom in 2 Samual 15–18 which might be the source of this Psalm.
Regardless, the emphasis is in trusting God in life. No matter what is faced, it is trust in God that we hold onto. Here is a very important question for you to consider today.
Am I prone to give up on life in response to what I am facing?
Listen to David in verse 22 NKJV-
22 For I said in my haste, “I am cut off from before Your eyes”;…
Can you say that you have said similar things to God in the midst of whatever you are facing in life? Maybe you gave up but kept on calling Him to help in whatever that situation you were facing?
David continued in the same verse to say-
…Nevertheless You heard the voice of my supplications when I cried out to You.
Is it really ever the things of life we face or is it the thought of being abandoned by the God we trust and serve? David did what we do when we sense that God is no longer near: he cried out to the Lord for His mercy, and the Lord answered.
Once whatever it was David faced had passed, he said in verses 23-24 that-
23 Oh, love the Lord, all you His saints! For the Lord preserves the faithful, and fully repays the proud person.
24 Be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart, all you who hope in the Lord.
David spoke of his faith in the Lord (vv. 1, 6, 14, 19), but now he encourages his people to love the Lord and put their hope in him.
Faith, hope, and love always go together. Paul reminded the church in Corinth of this truth in 1 Corinthians 13:13-
13 And now abide faith, hope, love, these three; but the greatest of these is love.
The courage and strength we need in the trials of life are available from the Lord if we will put our faith in Him. Let’s be sure that we give Him the glory.
Trust you and your family will remember the Savior’s sacrifice and His resurrection on this sacred weekend.
He is risen, He is risen indeed!
In God’s Grace,
