There is an interesting thing happening at our southern border. People by the thousands are making their way here for a better life. Specifically there are those who come from Venezuela. Once a prosperous country which has natural resources and people who enjoyed freedom and family. Now it is a shell of its former self. They are leaving to come here for a better life.
If you follow my blog, you know I have spoken of this before. Again, at least today, these United States is the only country in the world where freedom exists. As we all know, Ben Franklin was asked what they had given the people and he responded a republic and he concluded by saying, if you can keep it. Those words are haunting today as we hear the cry to keep our democracy. An interesting point is that a republic looks to a Constitution. A democracy calls for majority rule. So when you hear the cry to maintain our democracy be certain the person saying so is talking about a democratic republic. I say this because many today do want a democracy of majority rule and they want to be that majority that rules.
We are being led away from the idea of a republic toward a form of socialism using the word democracy to describe it. This happens every time there is this attempt and often success in destroying a country. Consider as we mentioned earlier Venezuela. I have mentioned before we have spoken to young people from Venezuela and they have described clearly what is was and is now like there. They cannot understand why any one would want to live under socialist control. Yet in the recent primary elections a young woman won and told her constituents publicly that the socialist agenda won and would continue to win in their city. This was here and not another country.
There is so much wrong in the world today and throwing our hands in the air and accepting it is the wrong thing to do. We need to pray for our country and especially our leaders. We need to be knowledgeable as to who and what is happening and do the right thing. It goes back to what we have spoken about in the past. We know what is right and wrong. The old saying you can put lipstick on a pig, but it is still a pig, is as true today as the first time it was spoken.
We are living in perilous times and the only hope for anyone or for this world in Jesus Christ. As a believer it is our job to live the Christian life for all to see and to tell others about a Saviour in Jesus.
Will that turn the tide and make all things right in the world? No, but it will change the eternal home for those who accept Jesus as their Saviour and Lord. It will make maybe the place where you live a better place than another.
You may believe as I do that people for the most part want to be able to enjoy life. Unfortunately, from what we see and read that is certainly not the case for all. Now do I believe they are a majority, well no I don't. That is why it is so important that we commit to being who we are to be in Christ.
The Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:22 ESV-
...I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some.
That verse has always had a very special place in my life. I want to be a witness for Christ. I want others to see Jesus in me. There is a wonderful old hymn of the faith that you probably know "Let others see Jesus in you". This wonderful hymn is now in the public domain so let me share its words with you now-
1. While passing through this world of sin, And others your life shall view, Be clean and pure without, within, Let others see Jesus in you.
Let others see Jesus in you, Let others see Jesus in you; Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.
2. Your life's a book before their eyes, They're reading it through and through; Say, does it point them to the skies, Do others see Jesus in you?
Let others see Jesus in you, Let others see Jesus in you; Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.
3. What joy 'twill be at set of sun, In mansions beyond the blue, To find some souls that you have won; Let others see Jesus in you.
Let others see Jesus in you,nLet others see Jesus in you; Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.
4. Then live for Christ both day and night, Be faithful, be brave, and true, And lead the lost to life and light; Let others see Jesus in you.
Let others see Jesus in you, Let others see Jesus in you; Keep telling the story, be faithful and true, Let others see Jesus in you.
I hope these thoughts today and the words of this wonderful hymn will encourage you this year so that others see Jesus in you. It is the only hope they or this world have.
In God's Grace,
