We may be similar in our thinking and even consideration of what is happening around us and in the world. I attempt to stay abreast of what is occurring on the local, state, national and international levels. It is important for all of us to understand about the events occurring around us and their impact on our lives individually, as Christians, and as a nation.
Look with me at the book of the beginnings and see what it says in Genesis 12:1-4
1 Now the Lord had said to Abram: “Get out of your country, From your family And from your father’s house, To a land that I will show you.
2 I will make you a great nation; I will bless you And make your name great; And you shall be a blessing.
3 I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you; And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.”
4 So Abram departed as the Lord had spoken to him,…
God was speaking to Abram who later would be known as Abraham. It would be through Abram that God would build a great people, His people and today we know them to be Israel. Now we know their stories from the Old Testament. Of the tribes and the divisions such as Judah. Of their faithfulness in walking with God but also of their times of rebellion against Him.
There is something that I wanted to say today that has to do with what we see happening in the world today. It is very difficult to keep every piece in the right perspective, but there are general themes that we can look at with some confidence as to what we see going on today:
Again in the text from Genesis we read where God says-“…I will bless those who bless you, And I will curse him who curses you;…”
All of my life I have heard this perspective and seen how our nation has been a supporter and encourager of the nation of Israel. I believe that the blessings we have enjoyed as a nation are because of that support and encouragement. I also believe that it is evident that our support and encouragement for Israel have diminished over the last few years.
Whether there have been blessings lost at any time is a matter of debate. However, from what the Lord Himself says well, I would rather be blessed by the Lord than cursed. Now, I am not being overly simplistic here. Actually there are many reasons that things are the way they are in the United States and it is not simply because of support or lack of for Israel.
We have a lot of problems as a nation and there are a lot of things going on in the world and with God that have an effect on where we are. Listen, the Holy Spirit is God’s presence on this earth and He is the only one that keeps Satan from taking over. That will happen one day when the Holy Spirit is removed by God as Paul speaks about in 2 Thessalonians 2:7
He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. Until that day the Holy Spirit restrains Satan.
How much time is left? Only God knows. Can it get worse? The answer is a resounding yes. We never thought we would see things happening in our cities, states, and nations that are happening today. It is important to note that when Adam and Eve sinned in the Garden of Eden the control of the world which was Adam's, by God's design, was abdicated by Adam to Satan. That is why we read in Romans 5:12 the words of the Apostle Paul when he declares through the leadership of the Holy Spirit that-
just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—
Every person born is a sinner. Every person born is in need of a Savior. That Savior is Jesus Christ. The old hymn of the faith "Without Him" says that-
Without Him I could do nothing
Without Him I’d surely fail
Oh, Without Him I would be drifting
Like a ship without a sail
The chorus says-
Jesus, oh Jesus
Do you know Him today
Please don’t turn Him away
Oh Jesus, my Jesus
Without Him how lost would I be
If you have asked Jesus to be your Savior, congratulations. If you haven't and would like to know more and even talk about asking Him to be your Savior then write us today via our email and we will contact you. Write us at info@ElbertNasworthy.com
