These are some very pleasant days here in our neck of the woods here in Florida. This is a wonderful time of year as the weather begins its spring change that will take us to the summer to come.

Thirty-nine years ago this weekend, I was in Augusta, GA for The Masters. It was the same weekend it is this year, April 10-13. I was there with my father, brother-in-law and a friend from church. We had 3 tickets and would pass them around to one another. So we had some time to rest up during the day. There is a lot of walking and the hills are pretty steep at Augusta National.

I had the opportunity to walk the back nine on Sunday afternoon when Jack Nicklaus won. What a memory and what a week it was. The weather was much like it is this year. Cool mornings and warm in the afternoon.

The beauty of God’s creation is so evident at that special place. They take great care of the land and the surrounding of that wonderful place where golf is played by invitation. There are stories that one year at Par 3 number 12, the weather was very hot and dry. That the azaleas were wilting during the day from the heat. The story goes that on Saturday night they went in and replanted new azaleas for the Sunday round. That way the beauty of Augusta Nationals could be seen on television that day.

Now if you’re a golfer you can appreciate such a hallowed place. If not then I understand, but if you can see some pictures, which do not do it justice, you will see what I mean. Just catch a glimpse on your TV this weekend. You will be awed by the beauty and remember it is God’s creation.

In Romans 1:20 ESV Paul said-

“For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse”

Psalm 19:1 says-

The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

Creation is something we see and experience. Every day we are in the presence of God as seen in His creation.

It is hard to look at creation and not be amazed at what we see. The show “The America’s” is one that really shows the wonder of the world. It is specific to our part of the world but even in that there is great diversity and beauty from the artic north to the jungles of the south. That and other shows like Kevin Costner and the story of Yellowstone National Park and then “Yellowstone to Yosemite” showing the story of that park are remainders of the power of God in His creation of this place we call home.

There are so many wonderful places just in our own country. Add to that the wonders of the world showing us the beauty of His creation and His power.

God’s creation reveals God. His invisible attributes, eternal power, and divine nature are clearly seen and understood in creation. We believe there are over 100 billion galaxies, glory and might of God are thus seen. The intricacies of a living cell provide the intelligence and skill of God. When we consider the 60,000 miles of blood vessels strategically placed in the human body, we see the wisdom and forethought of God.

We love the beauty of creation and enjoy it but it is more important to know the one who created that beauty.

Just as a note, as I was talking to a friend today we were talking about The Masters. I commented that I trust the God in the new earth to come will make Augusta National a public course. If you’re a golfer, I can probably get an Amen from you. Am I right?

In God’s Grace,

Elbert Nasworthy
