In the past 2 weeks I wrote a couple of blogs on “Changes” and “Thinking About Life”. If you missed those blogs you can find them right here on the website. Several have commented and even shared articles that speak to the general topics of life and its constant change.
To put this into some perspective, as most of you know I have had some recent issues regarding my heart. For the past 9 weeks, I have been slowly recovering and adapting to what and how we will do life as a couple. I mean besides that issue there is also the issue of just getting physically older. We will be seeing some of you in October at our 55th High School Reunion.
We were at lunch Sunday after church and one of the ladies asked how I was feeling. The truth is I was asymptomatic from the beginning to my condition and felt fine. All has been corrected and I honestly feel just as good now as I did then. Now I guess I thought I would feel even better. Truth of the matter is, I have over the past week or so gotten back to doing things I have always done and honestly it is great.
So all of this started in October of last year, and we have not been able to travel in our motorhome. As I am writing this today, we just pulled into a RV park for the night. Going to see some family and then tomorrow head out to visit other friends and family members.
So I have worked to get the motorhome ready and cleaned up. Six months of dirt build up is a long time. Had a tire issue, but that was easily taken care of and the Jeep which is our toad was ready, too. It was a nice trip on this first leg today. Good weather and the traffic wasn’t that bad either.
So with all of that said, I am sitting here and relaxing. Pondering life and the mystique that embodies it each day. Change is inevitable and if we don’t think about what is going on we will miss the very things that make life, well life.
We watched an episode of “The Americas” last night. It was about the frozen north of Canada and Alaska. Being a Florida couple, it is impossible for me to even imagine the cold of that part of the world nor do we want to. I mean we have been to Alaska but it was the summer or fall. Nice place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there.
God knew and knows what He is doing. We want explanations and there are times when it is available and other times when it is not. To say that we have a short attention span would be laughable if it weren’t true.
Reading God’s Word and the history of His interactions with His people time and again this is shown. God instructs them and over generations they turn away. They realize their need because something bad has happened to them. They call out to God and He redeems them and the cycle starts all over again. Just like the weather changes so does man.
Here is an example from the book of Juges 13:1-
“Again the Israelites did evil in the Lord’s sight, so the Lord handed them over to the Philistines, who oppressed them for forty years.”
In previous chapters, you read the process of redemption by God and abandonment by His people. Here the verse will lead to the accounts that surround the life of Samson. As you read the accounts you will see that in the big picture it was his people who abandoned the Lord. You will also read the more focused and specific account of Samson. Used by God but abandons Him only in the end to be redeemed.
There is a wonderful old hymn of the faith entitled “Redeemed, How I Love To Proclaim It!” by Fanny Crosby. It begins by stating “Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it”. I do like to proclaim that I am indeed redeemed. There is a next part of the verse says “Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb; Redeemed through His infinite mercy, His child, and forever, I am.”
Redemption in the Bible is the act of God saving His people from sin, bondage, and death through a sacrificial payment. The root of which is found in the Old Testament. Then the ultimate fulfillment in the New Testament through the work of Jesus Christ. For us, it is that act of sacrifice which redeems us today. By the way, His infinite mercy is new to us each day and provides for us who know Christ as our Savior to His child, forever.
